I was truly so happy when I first heard the news that Misty Copeland was promoted from soloist to principal dancer at the American Ballet Theatre. She has once again defied the odds of the ballet world. She is an inspiration to so many – including myself -, dancer or not. This is a huge step, not only for the now prima ballerina but also for the whole ballet world. A girl who discovered ballet at the age of 13, does not have the idealized ballerina body became one of ABT’s youngest soloists and then just two days ago she has become the only African American principal dancer at the company in its 75 years of existence.

If you are every in need of inspiration, just go take a look at this women’s incredible journey
